The Big Day: 10/30/2008 2:43 AM

Like the saying goes, nothing good in life comes easy, and if that saying is true then you are a VERY good thing! Tuesday night, 10/28/2008, at about 5pm, I started feeling contractions. My mom had had very easy births with me and your uncles James and John, so I figured you'd be delivered that night! I stayed up all night as the contractions got stronger, but you decided to make us wait! At 5am on Wed morning, after timing contractions all night, your dad and I decided it was time to go to the hospital. We were so excited to finally meet you, and I even baked a loaf of pumpkin bread for the nurses!

When we arrived at the hospital Wed morning, I was 4 cm dialated, and the nurses told me I could probably go home for awhile and come back when I was further along. I was trying to give birth to you naturally, so I went home and labored until about 4pm! When we went back to the hospital I was 7cm dilated, and the doctors said you would probably arrive by 7pm! We cheered but little did we knew Rowan Drew Collup was not a man to be rushed.

After 5 more hours of excruciating labor, it was after midnight and you still hadn't come. My blood pressure had dropped and your heart rate was dropping too, so the doctor said it was time for the meds. After they gave me pitocin and an epidural, you showed up about 2 hours later, much to everyone's relief!

Lots of people came to visit you at the hospital, and you were handsome and fun from day one.

We can't really tell your story without a brief history of the wacky parents that decided it would be a good idea to bring another little person into the Collup family. Your dad Andrew Collup and I met in Oklahoma when I was 18 and he was 23. Although we were both from California, we met working at a steakhouse in Oklahoma in 2003, and 3 years and 3 states later we got married in Bend, OR 2006.
